James Madam is a member of the Gitdumden, or Grizzly Bear Clan of the Wet'Sueten Nation, located in the village of Witset in the beautiful Bulkley Valley. Born in 1967, he is the youngest of 8 children.
James studied Northwest Coast First Nations Art at Gitanmaxx Native Art School in 1989.
James's wood carvings include bowls, rattles, paddles and masks. He has also made drums and bentwood boxes.
James has carved a large totem pole for Smithers Secondary School, 'Bridging the Gap' project, helped with carving the pole that now stands in front of the Northwest Community College, as well as been involved in many smaller projects for School District 54.
